May Business of the Month: Sophia’s Bridal, Tux & Prom

As Southport focuses on growing and enhancing our business community, it’s important to recognize the existing businesses that help our city thrive. Our new Business of the Month will help you get to know the wonderful locally-owned business in and around Southport.

Sophia’s Bridal, Tux & Prom started in 2007 with a 1,600 square-foot space and 25 dresses. The business grew quickly over the years, adding more square footage and eventually moving to its current space on Southport Road with 10,000 square feet, over 300 wedding dresses and over 1,200 prom dresses! The current owner, Jessica Limeberry, took over in 2014 and decided to move from the original space to the new space, completely renovating the old post office which had become an eyesore to the city! Sophia’s has wedding dresses, bridesmaids, tuxedos, formal wear, prom dresses as well as accessories! Here, Jessica discusses more about her shop:

What do you enjoy most about doing business in/near the Southport community?

Everyone in Southport has been so welcoming of us from day one. We love being a part of a small community, to support other local businesses, to encourage each other and to feel like the whole city is looking out for you! We love having people stop in to get a tour, to hear what locals think about dresses in the window, and to just be a positive influence in the community!

What is the most popular item/service you provide?

We are most well known for or wedding dresses. We have over 2,000 brides in our doors each year, and love celebrating with them and their families! Prom is another fun part of our business! The “prom season” is quick – about January to April – but it is crazy exciting, fast paced, and so fun (not to mention all the color and sparkles!)

What is your favorite memory in relation to your business?

Creating relationships with our customers is the best part. So many prom customer come back to be Sophia’s Brides, and we see lots of amazing people referring their friends and family! One of our amazing brides, Amanda, likes to stop in and visit and say hi when she’s close, and even told us about her pregnancy before she told her family! We love being a part of these amazing life moments, its such a blessing!

What are your goals for the future of the business?

At Sophia’s, we have so many big things planned! We continue to do outreach with Girls, Inc among other amazing fundraisers, we love doing events, both within the store and in conjunction with other wedding related vendors, and we are excited about a big Sophia’s Bride Gala we are planning for this summer! Our biggest goal is to just pour love into the people who walk in our door, our staff, our vendors, and our community!

What is something we might be surprised to learn about your business?

I think most people are surprised when they realize how much we pour into each customer. We spend hours with each bride, get to know their family, their fiancé, and the ins and outs of one of the most important days in their life! Most of our staff have been here for years, and being able to be a consistent calm within a high stress event is such a joy to us, and our brides!
